Courses are hosted by Cottonwood Gulch and taught by SOLO Wilderness Medicine Institute.

WFA: Being outside is always a blast, but being prepared can make or break a trip. Whether you are an outdoor educator, a burgeoning outdoor guide, a recreational hiker or simply curious about wilderness medicine, this course introduces crucial concepts of responding to emergencies in the outdoors. Join SOLO and Cottonwood Gulch Expeditions for Wilderness First Aid. SOLO’s professional medical instructors will provide knowledge on patient assessment, effective first aid techniques for common ailments in the outdoors, and safe and proper evacuation practices.

This course will take place at the Cottonwood Gulch Basecamp: 659 NM-612, Thoreau, NM 87323. Participants can stay in open air cabins and/or camp in provided areas.

We will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner on both course days. Participants can arrive the evening before or early the first morning- The course will begin at 8am until approximately 4-5pm. Breakfast is at 7:30am.

You’ll be learning both outside and inside regardless of weather conditions, so come prepared for hot, cold, and muddy conditions!
