Embrace Community.
Welcome, Summer Trekkers!
At Cottonwood Gulch, we don’t just go outside; we go deeper. Every trek is a chance to grow confidence, build community, and connect with the beautiful and rugged Southwest. Whether it’s your child’s first summer with us or they’re returning for another adventure, this is your one-stop guide for preparing, participating, and staying connected.
We’ve streamlined everything here so you can focus on the excitement ahead and feel well prepared for your summer trek adventures. Below, you’ll find checklists, forms, communication tips, and ways to stay engaged long after the trail dust settles. You might want to bookmark this page for ready reference as you prepare for your summer trek with us!
Step 1: Set Up Your CampInTouch Account
CampInTouch is our secure portal where you’ll manage all the essential forms and information for your child’s trek, like registration, health and legal forms, emergency contacts, and travel details. All required forms must be completed by May 15th.
After you are registered, you can log in anytime to update details or check your progress.
Step 2: Download the Essentials
Start prepping for the trek with these important resources. We recommend reading these together with your child to help them feel confident and ready. Don’t stress: our staff are pros at helping every kid adjust and we’re here to answer questions if anything feels unclear.

Step 3: How to Stay in Touch
We know it can be hard to be apart. Here’s how to stay connected while your trekker is at our Basecamp or on the trail with our award-winning staff.
Mail & Packages:
We send and receive mail at Basecamp every day except Sunday and this is the best way for Trekkers to stay in touch with their family and friends. Please refer to the Plans & Preparation document for more information and remember that care packages with food or scented items are strongly discouraged (they can spoil or, worse, attract critters!).
Address mail to Trekkers as follows:
- Cottonwood Gulch
Trekker's Name and Trek Group Name
659 Highway 612
Thoreau, NM 87323
Emergency Contacts:
While Traveling to the Gulch: If there is some unexpected change in your travel, such as a missed or canceled flight, do not panic. There is someone at the Gulch phone all day on travel days, so call 505-862-7503 and we can help solve problems and relay information. Each Trekker should have this number on them when they travel.
During Treks: Trekkers don't have phones available to them. The phone number for Cottonwood Gulch’s Basecamp office is (505) 862-7503. This phone is used primarily for emergency purposes and is located across the road from Basecamp, about ½ mile from where Trekkers live. We always have someone monitoring our phone lines while trekkers are at camp.
Before & After the Trek:
You are encouraged to call or email our staff with any questions about logistics or how to prepare. You can contact our director of summer programs at any time of the year via email at this address cass.landrum@cottonwoodgulch.org with any questions.
After the Trek is over, we will be sending you a detailed feedback form but we always love hearing your feedback and stories! So please feel free to send letters, emails, or give us a call if you want to talk about the trek experience, ask questions, or learn how to sign up for next year.
Step 4: FAQs
Step 5: Stay in the Loop All Year
Stay a part of our community year round! Our staff love to stay connected with our thriving alumni and family community by sharing stories, photos, alumni news, and trek updates on our social channels, blog, newsletter, and publications.
