Dear Gulch Community,

“This trek was life-changing.”
“The best thing I’ve ever done.”
“I can’t wait to come back to the Gulch next year… but can we afford it?”

Those are words we hear from trekkers every year: our programs are transformative, trekkers want to return year after year, and yet… the cost of our small-group expeditions is beyond the reach of many families. Your support will help us take the steps to change that.
This year we want to provide more scholarships than ever before, and we are asking you to support a new generation of trekkers by making a scholarship donation.
Why? Here are a few reasons we’ve heard from our fellow Gulch community members:

“Scholarships give someone less fortunate an experience they’d never have where they grew up. And nature is so unbelievable; it’s great to share that with kids.”

– Joe Herrera, Jr., Trekker 1981-1984; Resident Artist 2021-Present

“It’s important to support places where kids can have unbelievable experiences, with a diverse make-up of kids… Because you just don’t know what will resonate there and change the course of their lives.”

– Deb Korol, Trekker 1962; Scholarship Donor 2014-Present

Last year we gave out $55,000 in scholarship support. This year, we want to provide $100,000 to dozens of additional trekkers with need-based financial assistance. We do not want lack of money to be the reason a young person can’t join a Gulch expedition.
I hope you’ll consider a scholarship donation, either with the enclosed envelope or online at
