Turquoise Trail Trek 2026: A Parent’s Guide to This Transformative Summer Experience

Join us for
Turquoise Trail Trek 2026

Turquoise Trail Trek 2026 invites female-identifying teens, ages 15 to 18, to explore identity, community, and place through an extended summer expedition with Cottonwood Gulch. This unique program blends immersive education, meaningful travel, and deep connection to landscape and people.

In this guide, we help parents understand what makes Turquoise Trail special, where it travels, and how it supports growth in confidence, leadership, and connection to the world around them.

What the Turquoise Trail Trek 2026 Is All About

The Turquoise Trail Trek is a long form program designed for older teen girls who are ready for sustained community living and challenges in the field. Trekkers explore questions around identity, purpose, and belonging while living closely with peers and guides. The experience encourages independence, thoughtful engagement, and reflection in a supportive environment. By balancing physical adventure with intellectual curiosity, the Turquoise Trail strengthens both character and resilience.

Travel and Landscapes

This multi week trek adventure will journey across diverse regions of the American Southwest. On even years, the route travels through Northern New Mexico and Southern Utah. On odd years, trekkers explore parts of Arizona and Southern Colorado. These landscapes include rich cultural sites, wide open deserts, high mountain forests, and deep canyons. By moving through these varied regions, students gain firsthand understanding of geology, ecology, and the human history of the places they visit.

Learning and Experiences

Turquoise Trail Trek 2026 offers both outdoor skill building and intellectual engagement. Trekkers gain experience in backpacking, camp craft, navigation, and environmental observation. The program integrates project work, stewardship tasks, and reflection circles that help teens connect field experience with personal meaning. Participants also visit local communities and culturally significant sites, building empathy and cultural awareness through direct engagement and guided discussion.

Community and Growth

One of the defining elements of the Turquoise Trail Trek is community. Living, traveling, and learning together over many weeks creates a powerful sense of belonging and support. Trekkers build strong friendships and practice group cooperation while developing greater self reliance and emotional intelligence. Parents often notice that students return with stronger communication skills, confidence, and a broader perspective on the world.

Flexible Pricing and Access

Turquoise Trail embraces inclusive access with a sliding scale pricing model that invites families to choose the level that fits their means. The selection of price does not affect acceptance decisions. This model helps keep opportunities open to a wider range of families and supports a more diverse community of trekkers.
