Summer Treks for Ages 9–13: Introduction and Adventure
These introductory Summer Treks for ages 9–13 are designed to build foundational outdoor skills, confidence, and teamwork. Younger trekkers travel in small groups with experienced instructors, learning to cook, camp, hike, and explore responsibly across the Southwest. Programs for this age group blend Basecamp stability with age-appropriate exploration, helping younger trekkers gain confidence while discovering the joy of outdoor living.
GO Trek 2026
Dates: June 21–27, July 5–11, July 19–25
Age Range: 9–11
Focus: Introduction to outdoor skills and Basecamp exploration
GO Trek offers a one-week introduction to outdoor learning at Basecamp, where young trekkers build beginner camping skills, explore nearby natural areas, and practice teamwork. The experience strengthens confidence and independence while creating a positive first connection to wilderness adventure.
Outfit Expedition Trek 2026
Dates: June 21–July 5, July 19–August 2
Age Range: 11–13
Focus: Foundational trekking skills and first backpacking experience
Outfit Expedition blends extended Basecamp time with a road loop adventure, introducing preteens to group camping routines, outdoor responsibility, and a supported overnight backpacking experience. Trekkers develop resilience and self-awareness as they transition toward greater independence in the outdoors.
Wild Country Trek 2026
Dates: June 21–July 11, July 13–August 2
Age Range: 13–15
Focus: Stewardship, backpacking, and field science
Wild Country Trek expands adventure through multi-week travel across diverse Southwestern landscapes, incorporating backpacking, ecology, and cultural exploration. Teens strengthen navigation skills, environmental awareness, and collaborative problem solving through immersive field experiences.

Summer Treks for Ages 14–18: Extended Exploration and Leadership
Treks for ages 14–18 emphasize deeper immersion in wilderness travel, cultural learning, science, and leadership development. Participants gain confidence, responsibility, and a stronger sense of identity through extended time living and traveling in community. Our teen-focused Summer Treks emphasize leadership, advanced backcountry skills, and increased responsibility – while also challenging participants physically and intellectually while rewarding them with greater autonomy.
Prairie Trek 2026
Dates: June 27–July 29
Age Range: 14–16
Focus: Plains ecology, cultural competency, and community
Prairie Trek is a month-long journey centered on grassland ecosystems, conservation practices, and cultural understanding. Trekkers develop analytical thinking, leadership skills, and a broader perspective through hands-on fieldwork and meaningful dialogue.
Turquoise Trail Trek 2026
Dates: June 27–July 29
Age Range: 14–16
Focus: Cultural history and desert landscape exploration
Turquoise Trail Trek guides teens through significant Southwestern landscapes while exploring history, identity, and environmental stewardship. The program fosters reflection, confidence, and collaborative leadership within a supportive peer community.
Paleontology Trek 2026
Dates: June 21–July 5
Age Range: 15–18
Focus: Applied paleontology and field science

Mountain Desert Trek 2026

Youth Conservation Corps | Ages 18–21
The Youth Conservation Corps offers young adults professional experience through meaningful conservation work and environmental stewardship. Participants build workforce skills while contributing directly to public land preservation. The program blends service, conservation, and expedition travel, contributing to meaningful land stewardship projects across the Southwest, gaining professional-level field experience.
